All homes meet Welsh Standard
A 10 year programme of improvement comes to an end today, when all Taff Housing Association homes are guaranteed to meet the so called ‘Welsh Housing Quality Standard’. Over this period, 428 kitchens have been renewed, 615 showers installed, new windows and doors have been fitted to 370 properties, over £2.5m spent on other works and the final piece of the jigsaw is now complete, with every home having a shed for storage.
The Welsh Government originally told all social landlords they would need to meet the target by the end of this financial year. Some Councils transferred their homes in order to be able to afford to fund this work, and significant investment has been made all across Wales.
Not all organisations will have met the deadline, which has been extended for some. Taff has always invested in its homes, so was happy to commit to the programme.
‘We’re really proud we’ve been able to carry out all of this work on time and within budget. We started on things that made the most difference to tenants, like kitchens and showers, and have worked through all of the other items on the Government’s list’, said Phil Dunn, Head of Property.
Liz Bratcher said ‘I want to say a big thank you to the maintenance team for fitting my kitchen perfectly. Dave did a professional job and Kevin the electrician was a really hard worker.’
