Honor Goodsite and Team Visits Local School Children

Taff Housing Association is currently building 19 new homes on Penarth Road Cardiff, the former site of the FA Jones Decorators. The site is just a stone’s throw away from St Patrick's R C Primary School.

Today, Taff Community Investment Officer Clare, Hale Construction Project Manager Gerwyn and special guest Honor Goodsite visited the school.

Honor and her team told the children all about the various hazards found on building sites, equipment used in construction and the personal protective equipment that is used throughout the industry. The children then had the opportunity to ask Hale Project Manager Gerwyn questions about what it is like to work in the construction industry. There were some excellent questions!

All of the children then had the opportunity to try on a hard hat and high vis jacket before collecting colouring and game sheets to take home.

Acting St Patrick’s Head Teacher Mrs Swain commented, “This was a great opportunity for the children to learn about the dangers of building sites. Honor is a larger than life character so I’m sure they will remember her and her message about how to stay safe if they are close to a building site in the future.”

Taff have donated a range of multi-sensory construction books to the school’s library so children can further develop their interest at a later date.

The overriding message was very clear; children should stay away from building sites as they are dangerous places. We must remember that although they may look exciting and fun to play in, they can be very dangerous places… especially for children.
