Hi, I’m Matthew.
I first got involved with training at Taff when I received a newsletter through my door a few years ago. I have attended several training courses since including an accredited Classroom Assistant Course. Towards the end of the training, Clare from the Community Investment Team told us about volunteering opportunities at Taff and in the local community. Clare explained that they have a Tenant bursary scheme to help pay for DBS checks, a requirement if you want to volunteer or work in a school. Clare helped me apply for a DBS check. Once it was back she contacted me to say that there were several schools in the area happy to offer me a volunteering placement. I have been volunteering at Lansdowne Primary School in Canton since April and I love it! I have mainly been with Year 2 and Year 3 so far.
It’s a great school and a really good learning environment. The school have been very accommodating, particularly Mr McInnes who has offered me additional days if I want to volunteer more. I would recommend others attend training at Taff because it can lead on to more opportunities like it has done for me.
