We are committed to building futures when we build new homes. We create apprenticeships, traineeships and job opportunities - working with local schools and community groups.
Our new St Mellons development will provide 33 new affordable homes and earlier this year we welcomed a third apprentice on site.
We caught up with Dylan to find out about his experience so far.
“I have always wanted to be a carpenter and follow in my Grandad’s footsteps where from a young age he encouraged me to play with pieces of wood and help him out with small carpentry tasks.
I enrolled at Cardiff and Vale College straight from school and I am now in my second year of my apprenticeship, spending four days on site and one day at college a week. My apprenticeship is hosted by Yprentice - an organisation that ensures I will get all the experience I need to complete my qualifications. Some developments only have 6 or 8 months of carpentry work, however I am able to transfer across placements so I that meet the course requirements.
I am currently working on Taff’s new development which is being built by CJ Contrustion. As a carpentry apprentice I have been carrying out tasks such as stud walls in the 1st fix and kitchens during the 2nd fix.
I have been offered a job with a sub-contractor through my Taff placement and once this housing development is finished I will start working directly for them where they will sponsor me through my NVQ Level 3.
I would recommend an apprenticeship through Taff and would encourage others to give it a go. I’m glad I did!”
