Personal Safety & Self Defence

Location: Taff Housing Association

This two hour training course will cover the three key areas to personal safety.

  1. You will learn how to be safe out and about- when walking, listening to music, using public transport, driving alone and when carrying valuables such as handbags and mobile phones
  2. Breakaway skills – you will learn and practice a range of techniques to breakaway from harm including; wrist locks, clothing grabs, strangle holds etc.
  3. Self-defence skills- Push away/redirection and various strikes


The trainer Vince has served thirty years as a Police Officer with South Wales Police. Having acquired a wide range of skills and experience during his service with CID, Firearms, Community Safety, Crime Prevention, Emergency Planning and Hate Crime, Vince spent the last six years of his police career working as a Counter Terrorist Prevent Engagement officer – assisting and supporting individuals identified as vulnerable to radicalisation and violent extremism.

This course is free of charge to Taff Tenants. Places are limited. You must register your interest by Friday 8th September 4pm. You will then be notified if you have secured a place by Monday 11th September 5pm. There will be a practical element to the training – learners are advised to wear comfortable clothing. All attendees will be required to sign a disclosure form on the day.
