Taff Housing Association
My name is Clare Dickinson. I am a Community Investment Officer here at Taff Housing Association, based at our head office in Canton. I manage our supported volunteer project as well as our jobs and training scheme.
Set up in 2013 thanks to a 3 year pot of funding from the WCVA and Welsh Government, our supported volunteer project has helped change many lives. We reinvest any profit that we make as a business back into the community. We decided to fund the project long term using some of this profit, to continue helping our Tenants and members of the local community in achieving their career goals.
We offer a wide range of unpaid volunteering opportunities across the Association to suit a variety of interests. We currently have the below vacancies available to Taff Tenants:
- Childcare Volunteer – Would you like to work with children in the future? Would you like to work in a crèche, nursery or play group? We offer placements with our family support project Shine. You can either gain hands on childcare experience in playgroup setting or you can spend time learning about the role of a Family Support Worker. If you would like direct nursery experience, we may be able to organise a placement at a local nursery. We have had some amazing feedback from childcare volunteers in the past. You can read more about volunteering in a childcare placement through Taff here
- Estate Assistant – Are you an outdoors person? If you are handy and would like to gain work experience in a caretaker role, this placement may be for you!
- Refugee Support Project – we are currently looking for a number of volunteers to help families adjust to life in Cardiff. This placement would suit someone interested in helping others, marketing, media, events, administration and community work. Tasks vary and will be tailored to suit your interests and career goals. We are particularly interested in Arabic speakers to shadow Support Workers to assist with translation and community support.
We regularly update this list, when placements become available.
We also work in partnership with local businesses to provide access to a wider range of opportunities in other areas such as; sports, arts, health, tourism (to name just a few).
If you are a Taff Tenant, you can access a tailored package of support to help you on your jobs journey, including free accredited training.
We also offer volunteering opportunities to non-Taff Tenants for certain externally funded projects.
If you are interested in volunteering with Taff, please contact me on 029 2025 9146 or email me on email@example.com
Once we have had a chat over the phone or via email, I will ask you to complete a volunteer application form. Once I have this back, I will meet with you to discuss a way forward.
If we have a vacancy that interests you, I will arrange a volunteer interview at our head office in Canton. This is basically an informal chat with you, myself and the team manager. If we are able to offer you a placement, you may need to undergo a DBS check to check for any convictions that may impact our ability to offer you a placement. I will guide you through this process. If we are able to offer you a placement following the DBS result, I will organise an induction which will include basic training. Don’t worry if you have convictions on your DBS check, we always look at the nature of the conviction- we just ask you to be honest with us.
